It's about your journey

It’s about learning to use your camera so you never miss the moment again – whatever that moment may be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out some of our frequently asked questions below – hopefully the answer you are looking for is here! If not, please feel free to call us 1-888-734-2641, chat with us (chat button below), or drop us an email hello@learnphotographycanada.com – we’d love to help out!

What kind of camera do I need for your course?

Anything with a manual mode is great for our courses – so this includes all DSLR cameras (i.e. ones where you can take off the lenses), bridge cameras (you can’t remove the lenses but there is an M on the mode dial), or mirrorless systems (these are awesome and as long as you can select an M mode – or if you’re using a Fujifilm, as long as you can change your shutter speed, aperture and ISO, you’re good to go). If you don’t know, just chat with us and we’ll double check for you!

Unfortunately you won’t get a lot from our course if you bring a phone camera or simple point-and-shoot system. BUT you can rent a camera from us for free!

At Learn Photography Canada, almost all of our workshops (with the exception of a few special events and multi-day Escapes) are completed in a single day. We believe in focused, immersive learning that delivers real progress without dragging things out.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Private One-on-One Mentoring Sessions:
    These are 3 hours long.
It’s you and your coach — hands-on, personalized, and tailored specifically to your goals.

  • Small Group Workshops:
These typically run up to 5 hours, depending on the size of the group.
The more interaction, questions, and shared learning — the richer the experience.

And here’s something that really matters:

Our Ultimate Guarantee:
We’re not finished until you are happy and confident in what you’ve learned.

If you leave unsure about something, we’re still with you. Our goal isn’t just to deliver content — it’s to build confidence.

Because photography excellence isn’t about clock-watching.
It’s about walking away knowing you can do it.

Locations vary depending on city and course, but if you’re looking for specifics, please feel free to check out our Locations pages (see heading above) or, if you’re already registered, our Support page. On these pages you’ll find everything you need regarding locations.

Absolutely.

We love instilling a passion for photography in young people. It’s creative. It builds confidence. It teaches observation, patience, problem-solving, and communication skills that serve them well in any future career path they may choose.

And let’s be honest… learning photography is just plain fun.

If your child is under 18, a parent, sibling, or other family member is welcome to join them at no extra charge as a chaperone — and maybe even serve as a part-time model for a few photos along the way. (The only exception would be if there’s admission required to a special venue — in that case, the accompanying adult would be responsible for their own entry fee.)

Many families tell us the workshop becomes more than just a class. It turns into a shared experience. A memory. A bonding moment.

Giving your child or teenager photography skills equips them with something they can leverage for personal enjoyment, creative expression, side income, or even future career development.

And who knows?
You might just discover a hidden talent along the way.

Yes! And it’s FREE! But we only have limited quantities in each city, so be sure to add your rental request to your order (just in the Notes section when you check out). Missed this part? No problem, just drop us an email and we’ll put you down for a rental.

Soooo many – seriously… Check them all out by clicking on the link that says “Locations & Dates” and selecting your city. Or you can see them on our Photography Courses page too!

We cap our workshops to 9 students but generally they average 2-3 participants which means you get lots of personal attention from your LPC coach/mentor!  Also private 3 hour one on one sessions with a Learn Photography Coach are available at no extra cost.  Choose Create Your Own Date from the Date menu.  When we receive your registration, we’ll connect you with your coach who will coordinate a best day/time/location for your session.

Great question. We are photographers after all… and weather is part of the adventure. 😉

The good news?
Most of our workshop locations have indoor options available, which means we can pivot quickly and still deliver an incredible learning experience. In fact, sometimes challenging weather creates some of the best teaching moments.

Now — when it comes to extreme weather events (freezing rain, tornado warnings, volcanic eruptions… you know, the dramatic stuff), safety is always our first concern.

If conditions are genuinely unsafe, we will postpone the workshop and allow you to choose another date that works for you in the future. Simple. No stress.

And if you ever feel that conditions are not safe for you to travel to the workshop, we completely respect that. Just give us as much notice as possible by emailing hello@learnphotographycanada.com or calling 1-888-734-2641, and we’ll gladly move your registration to a future date.

Photography is supposed to be inspiring — not risky.

We’ll always prioritize your safety first… and your learning experience right behind it.

That’s ok! Drop us an email and we’ll get your date changed. If this change is less than 48 hours before your course and not because of any weather/unsafe condition, there will be a $50 rebooking fee.

Easy 😊

If you selected “Create My Own Date” for a private one-on-one session, your coach will be reaching out to you by phone or email to coordinate a day and time that works best for your schedule.

We keep it flexible — because life is busy.
